I finally have time to thoughtfully reply.
There is no viable ‘do a deal’ formulation any longer.
Akin to suggesting the racist white South African government should have done a deal with the ANC the day after international sanctions (BTW, only broken by Israel) went into effect. Crushing strangling sanctions can / will now be brought down on another racist apartheid theocracy. In the sequel, the role of De Clerk is being played by the crypto Nazi Netanyhoooo. I’ll play Mandela.
